Harrogate – focus on education & schools

Harrogate district has a population of 157,000 and around half live in Harrogate town. The district is extremely well served with a combination of state (public) schools and private schools. The Harrogate schools (state) offer the full UK curriculum from age 5 upwards; taking students through the national qualifications of GSCEs at age 16 and A-levels at age 18 as well as offering the range of vocational qualifications such as BTEC and Apprenticeships.

Harrogate Meets Government Standards

In 2020 all Harrogate district secondary schools successfully met the new national standards set out by Government to measure the progress that a pupil makes through their education; and produced outcomes in the top tier for achievement nationally. The proportion of pupils who attained good GCSEs in the separate academic subject areas of mathematics, science and languages was more than 5 per cent above the national average.

Independent Schools In Harrogate

The independent school sector is also very strong in the district, and is a popular option for families.  Harrogate Ladies College takes boys and girls from 2 to 11 and girls from 11 to 18, and Ashville College takes students from nursery to sixth form. Both schools have a vast variety of international students and offer the option of boarding on campus.
